This movie, the private eyes ‘ban jin ba liang’ is a ground-breaking comedy of the HK cinema of 1970’s. It is one of Michael Hui’s best creation. The Hui brothers are the best, they dominated Hong Kong show business for about a decade, and this show represented the peak of their career.

This is a simple detective story acted by Michael Hui and brother Sam Hui. The theme song of this film is sang by Sam, who is a well known singer of that decade,  his songs were very catchy, which attracted millions of fans, even the younger generations like myself. I am sure most of the older chinese generations would have owned at least one of Sam Hui’s music album, like my parents, aunt and uncle, who are great fans of Sam’s.  I remember we used to play their films and music during chinese new year. It just makes everyone so happy. Do you enjoy Sam and Michael’s films?

This film is not only funny, but there is a positive message that the movie is trying to convey to the public that is to earn money for a living but not live to earn money.  That is so true don’t you think?

This movie made over HK $ 8 million profit in 1977 , if measured at today’s ticket price, it would be 120 million, even more than Titanic Box Office in HK with 116 million, and ‘First Strike’, Jacky Chan’s most successful film, made only 58 million.

This film is a must see, it is very entertaining!
